Jen Roper

Residency Artist 2023

Standpoint - Residency Studio

Residency Presentation: 26 January 2023

Exhibition: 26 3 February 2023

Revisiting moments of embarrassment in everyday life, Roper's paintings evoke awkward situations and encounters that otherwise become overlooked. The images are drawn from specific events in familiar environments; the work purposefully make a spectacle of the uncomfortable and exploit the awkwardness endured. In her depictions, Roper draws from personal experience in a self-deprecating manner, observing the uneasiness of the world around.

Jen Roper, (B. 1996), Lancaster. Working in London. Recent MA graduate in Fine Art from City and Guilds of London Art School, funded by the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Award. Recently selected for Wells Art Contemporary and The Contemporary British Painting Prize.
